Do you know that there is such an artificial pancreas that could help cure type 1 diabetes? The new treatment is currently called “Revolutionary”.
The Juvenile diabetes Research Foundation ahs form an alliance with Animas Corporation to create an automated system to help people suffering from type 1 diabetis to get rid of their disease. The artificial pancreas is based on a fully automated system that will automatically give some insulin to the patient based on the patient’s real time changes on blood sugar level.
It is reported that the device can allow notifies the diabetic about the blood sugar level wirelessly.
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation said, “The objectives of the partnership, a major industry initiative within the JDRF Artificial Pancreas Project, are to develop an automated system to manage diabetes, conduct extensive clinical trials for safety and efficacy, and submit the product to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for approval.”
Compared to checking your blood sugar manually and injecting insulin, the device is set to deliver insulin on a regular basis just like the original pancreas would do. The CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) is connected to an insulin pump that will give insulin to the body when needed. There would be a small thin sensor that is connected to the skin, most of the time it is connected to the abdomen. There is no danger of getting hypoglycemia since it will stop delivering insulin once that it detected that the blood sugar level is too low. One the blood sugar level is high then it would automatically increase its release to the body so that it can control the blood sugar level.
However high-tech this might sound it still needs some input from diabetic patients about the doses of insulin for the body.

However awesome this invention is we cannot compare it to the real things becuase it doesn’t cost a cent to operate it. I could imagine that I am going to spend a lot of money operating this device.
Just watch your weight and always exercise so that you wouldn’t develop diabetes.
